Almond Puff

ingredients

Base
butter, softened
flour
water

Puff Filling
butter
water
almond extract
flour
eggs

Icing
icing sugar
butter, softened
almond extract
warm water
chopped nuts (optional)

 

instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C)
  2. Base: Cut butter into flour. Sprinkle water over mixture, mix with fork
  3. Round into a ball, divide in half
  4. Pat each half into a 12×3″ strip on an ungreased baking sheet
  5. Puff Filling: In medium saucepan, heat butter and water to rolling boil
  6. Remove from heat and stir in almond extract and flour
  7. Stir vigorously over low heat until mixture forms a ball – about 1 minute
  8. Remove from heat, beat in eggs until smooth
  9. Divide in half, spread each half evenly over strips, covering completely
  10. Bake for 60 minutes, or until topping is crisp and brown. Cool.
  11. Mix icing sugar, butter, almond extraer until smooth
  12. Ice. Sprinkle with chopped nuts if desired
